1. Garden (2017)

Choreography: Isaac Bates-Vinueza

3. Leonardo & Lautréamont: Childhood and the Fiction of Sublimation
A critical essay by Isaac Bates-Vinueza
2025

“Leonardo & Lautreamont” is a searching, cross-disciplinary critique of the stories we tell about creativity and an investigation into the myth of the inner child.

Pairing a discussion of Lautréamont’s 19th century surrealist masterpiece, Les Chants de Maldaror, with a critique of Freud’s biography of Leonardo da Vinci, the essay asks us to rethink our assumptions what it means to be an artist--a re-definition that invites far-reaching political and cultural implications.
